CLASS #15  10/5/2012  The Movers and Shakers of Sociological Thought  Class Forecast

Essential Question: Who were the founders of Sociology and how did their theories shape the discipline of Sociology?

How did we go about answering this question?  Summarizing

Sociologists face two key questions:

#1 What issues are going to be studied?

#2 And how are we going to connect the facts?

In answering these questions, sociologists look at one or more of the theoretical approaches or “road maps."  Think of a theoretical approach as a basic image of society that guides thinking and research. Sociologists make use of three theoretical approaches – the structural functional approach, the social-conflict approach, and the symbolic-interaction approach.
