CLASS #9  2/13/2012  The Quest for Media Literacy  Class Forecast

Teachers may design a curriculum around a themed-based approach in order to incorporate 21st century skills into the content areas. This will allow students personal interest is brought into the classroom while focusing on higher order thinking skills.

Teachers must utilize a variety of methods for the children to build their own understanding through real world applications interactions with their peers in many cooperative group activities. “Life is a multimedia event, and the meanings that we secure from life are not simply contained in text; they yield their content through a wide variety of forms” (Eisner, 2002, p. 154). The students need to have a deep understanding for the real world in order to become successful individuals and be more technologically enhanced.

Hey everyone,

I know you must be thinking to yourself, "Why is David Veet emailing me...I haven't seen him in years" or, "Wait who is David Veet again?" Or maybe, "Isn't that the annoying kid with the awkward afro? Delete!" But yes, this is David Veet, the kid with the afro, hopefully that has separated me from the hundreds of other students you have had in the past 8 or 9 years. Unless there's a new kid with an afro lurking the hallways... whatever you do, don't trust him.

Anyways, I wanted to contact all of you and let you know that I am directing a short film titled, MONSTERS, in about 12 days. I thought that you might like to check it out and see what it's about, and maybe even support our cause. This film is the culmination of my college education, I am a film studies and production major. You may remember my brother Dan Veet, he is my producer, and essentially the glue holding this entire project together.

I'd like to thank many of you for allowing me to regularly substitute assignments with a video presentation or a movie of some sort. Without your encouragement and understanding, who knows maybe I would have traveled down a completely different path. I hope that all is going well, I remember the group of you as the good teachers, the cool ones that treated us like adults once in a while. I hope you are still fighting the good fight and making public education in Ballston Spa a better place.

Here is a link to my kickstarter page. There is a little video about our film that you can check out. Hopefully it will give you a better idea of what the film is all about, and how you can help us out.

If you read all of this, thanks for that!
