Topic #1a
The Quest for Media Literacy
www.bscsd.org/webpages/rhengsterman
What are you doing?
Throughout the semester we will be using new media such as blogs, wikis, and websites, as vehicles for exploring the human condition. I am asking each student enrolled in Sociology at Ballston to become active and critical thinkers about the content we explore and media we employ to explore it. Our Sociology Web Quest is designed to get you acquainted with the resources on our class webpage while encouraging dialogue and discourse about the new media you are consuming and eventually creating.
Why are you doing it?
In order to be considered media literate in an expanded information and communication media- scape students need to understand the nature of creating and sharing information. To accomplish this task, your web quest and future activities will require the reading, analyzing and evaluating web content.

What resources are available to help me with the Media Literacy Web Quest
To begin the Web Quest open a digital copy of the worksheet with embedded web links. You can find the digital copy on the district shared drive in the 01 SOCIOLOGY STUDENT Folder
You have the option of answering the questions in the space provided on your hard copy handout or typing your answers into a word document

Hey everyone,
I know you must be thinking to yourself, "Why is David Veet emailing me...I haven't seen him in years" or, "Wait who is David Veet again?" Or maybe, "Isn't that the annoying kid with the awkward afro? Delete!" But yes, this is David Veet, the kid with the afro, hopefully that has separated me from the hundreds of other students you have had in the past 8 or 9 years. Unless there's a new kid with an afro lurking the hallways... whatever you do, don't trust him.
Anyways, I wanted to contact all of you and let you know that I am directing a short film titled, MONSTERS, in about 12 days. I thought that you might like to check it out and see what it's about, and maybe even support our cause. This film is the culmination of my college education, I am a film studies and production major. You may remember my brother Dan Veet, he is my producer, and essentially the glue holding this entire project together.
I'd like to thank many of you for allowing me to regularly substitute assignments with a video presentation or a movie of some sort. Without your encouragement and understanding, who knows maybe I would have traveled down a completely different path. I hope that all is going well, I remember the group of you as the good teachers, the cool ones that treated us like adults once in a while. I hope you are still fighting the good fight and making public education in Ballston Spa a better place.
Here is a link to my kickstarter page. There is a little video about our film that you can check out. Hopefully it will give you a better idea of what the film is all about, and how you can help us out.

If you read all of this, thanks for that!
