Agents of Socialization
Socialization occurs throughout our life, but some of the most important socialization occurs in childhood. Four of the most
influential agents of socialization during that phase of our lives are the family, school, peers, and mass media.

SOCIALIZATION AND THE LIFE CYCLE
Reflection Activity

Socialization starts in infancy and continues throughout the person's life (cradle to grave), although the process is most intense during the infant and childhood years. The most basic rules of life are learned in the early years and set the foundation for everything that follows. The intensity continues during adolescence with emphasis on peer relations, sexuality, and responsibility. Adult socialization is mostly maintenance and learning rules for specialized areas of life. Socialization in the elderly years focuses on exiting adult roles and preparing for the end of life.
